KISI ARTIST

[Volha Firsaua]

The main issues that captivate me as an artist include archiving contemporary life in both real and virtual spaces. I find it crucial to explore the challenges of existence in society, encompassing all forms of interactions and communication, as well as the impact of context on the interpretation and understanding of events, cultural objects, and everyday life.

Born in Belarus and now based in Amsterdam, with a background in IT. KISI's journey into the art world is unique.
manifesto
Statement
"In my expressions, I use languages of technology, architecture, sculpture, and performance.
I believe it is essential to create across all mediums.
I view multimedia as a foundational element of my artistic practice."
VISION
The central theme that permeates my work is a blend of irony and tenderness. My primary goal is to craft artworks that preserve the artist's sincerity. It is important to me to generate situations where individuals can both feel emotions and reflect on the topics presented.
selected works
the obelisk
Foam, metal, patch cord

The obelisk was erected in honor of our God of today, the Internet. The four faces of the obelisk tell four stories that happened to me or my friends. They are stories of love, quarantine, and love in quarantine. Emoji, a commonly known graphic language, was used to describe the stories.

At the "HOMO COMMUNICANS" exhibition at MMOMA, Obelisk was giving away free WI-FI.
Wandering Lights
EL-wire

The diptych "Wandering Lights" was created for an art action on the swamp. The lights took the form of text, and the swamp became a messenger.

"ПОТОМ" ("Later") portrays the quiet takeover of a waterbody by nature’s blanket—a vibrant green algae. The neon-green text reflected on the water's surface—reading "ПОТОМ" (later)—introduces a digital, almost cyberpunk contrast to the organic decay.
Out of Memory
Particleboard, wood block, acrylic

Progress is moving faster and faster, the amount of information covers our fragile minds like a huge avalanche. And now the RAM of our brain is full, and the textures of the “real” world stop loading...
If our world turns out to be an illusion or a game, will you change your tactics? Reflect on the cycles of growth and decay, presence and absence, and the relationship between humans and the natural world.
